Wear Resistant Plates

NM450 - High-Strength Wear Plate

High-strength abrasion resistant steel plate commonly used in Chinese and Japanese markets, comparable to AR450 with excellent toughness and yield strength.

Material Type

NM450 High-Strength Wear Plate

Hardness & Properties

Hardness: ~450 HBW (Brinell Hardness)

Material Type: Quenched and Tempered Low-Alloy Steel

Typical Thickness Range: 6mm - 100mm

Yield Strength: ≥1200 MPa

Characteristics

  • Nomenclature commonly used in Chinese/Japanese markets
  • Comparable to AR450 in performance and applications
  • High yield strength and toughness - Excellent structural properties
  • Good weldability with proper procedures
  • Excellent formability for a wear-resistant grade

Applications

  • Earthmoving machinery components
  • Mining and quarry equipment
  • Conveyor systems and wear liners
  • Structural wear parts
  • Dump truck bodies
  • Excavator buckets
  • Crusher wear parts
  • Construction equipment

Advantages

  • High abrasion resistance suitable for heavy-duty applications
  • Excellent toughness - Good impact resistance
  • Good formability - Easier to fabricate than higher hardness grades
  • Cost-effective - Competitive pricing in Asian markets
  • Wide availability - Readily available from Asian suppliers

Processing Characteristics

Cutting: Can be cut using plasma, laser, or oxy-fuel cutting methods.

Forming: Good formability. Can be bent and formed with appropriate equipment.

Welding: Weldable with preheat (250-300°F) and low-hydrogen electrodes. Similar welding procedures to AR450.

Machining: Difficult to machine. Carbide tooling recommended.

Chemical Composition (Typical)

Carbon (C): ≤0.26%

Silicon (Si): ≤0.70%

Manganese (Mn): ≤1.70%

Phosphorus (P): ≤0.025%

Sulfur (S): ≤0.010%

Chromium (Cr): ≤1.00%

Molybdenum (Mo): ≤0.50%

Boron (B): ≤0.004%

Comparison with Other Grades

vs. AR450: NM450 is essentially equivalent to AR450, with similar hardness and performance characteristics.

vs. AR400: NM450 offers higher wear resistance and strength.

Best for: Heavy-duty mining and construction applications where AR450 performance is required, particularly in Asian markets.
